Public Safety Family

As we attempt to absorb the tragedy of yesterday’s shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, we must first stop and express our condolences to the victims and the families who tragically lost lives in a senseless act of violence.

Individuals who have dedicated their lives to public service, some who have served in hostile posts around the world and taken from their family and friends on our own soil. They will need our prayers and support today and the challenging months and years to come.

To our heroes, the men and women of MPD who confronted this challenge with unending courage, using their training and experience to neutralize this threat regardless of the risk of personal harm and loss of life.  You read “Serve and Protect” on patrol cars every day, but to witness the reality of that statement instills the sense of pride and respect of being part of that law enforcement family.

Our mission to support Chief Lanier and the men and women of MPD cannot be more critical during this time and what we witnessed on the 16th day of September in the year of 2013 in our Nation’s Capital. Because of support from our members and donors, we are able to help make the District a safer place for all to live, work and visit.

The ribbon cutting of the new Tactical Village on October 2, 2013 at the MPD Blue Plains Academy could not be more significant because of what occurred yesterday.  This state-of-the-art facility will provide MPD and their law enforcement partners life like cityscapes for tactical exercises which were implemented yesterday and without question saved further loss of life.

The Washington DC Police Foundation should be proud of the foresight and commitment in providing MPD the best training facility in the Nation and should send a message to everyone that training for law enforcement is the key to survival in a violent situation.

Chief’s Bald Eagles Symbolize our Country’s Strength

Dear Members and Friends,

As we all continue to keep the people of Boston in our thoughts and prayers, especially the victims and their families, we are reminded about the strength and perseverance that made this great Nation the best on the planet. The most majestic representation of our nation and the freedom it stands for is the Bald Eagle.

For the past several years, a pair of Bald Eagles have nested and raised chicks in a tall oak tree on the Metropolitan Police Department Academy grounds in Blue Plains, DC.  At the suggestion of our Chief Cathy Lanier, a live video camera was installed in the tree top and you can now watch the pair of Bald Eagles tend to their two newborn chicks on the National Geographic site.

I invite you to connect to the link and watch the rebirth of American Freedom!

Sincerely,

Joe

Remembering 9/11

Friends and Supporters,
All of us at the Washington DC Police Foundation invite you to join us in observing a moment of silence today to remember all those who lost their life in the most horrific act of terrorism on US soil on 9/11.

We would also like to thank the men and women of the Washington Metropolitan Police Department and all Law Enforcement and Intelligence Agencies for their dedicated service to protect our liberty and freedom.

We will never forget.

Recently you ha…

Recently you have read that suspicious letters have been received at over 7 locations in the District of Columbia. These “White Powder Letters” were sent to private buildings, DC Public schools and Government buildings.

All the letters were postmarked Dallas, TX and contained a letter with the words AL AQEDA-FBI or similar language and contained a white powder.  They were all typically addressed using a computer printed label.  Since the Anthrax scare in 2001 Law Enforcement has established strict protocols for field testing white powdery substances which has significantly reduced the potential impact of such an act.  Prior to the Anthrax investigation Law Enforcement did not have the scientific capacity to field test substances to determine if it had the chemical makeup of a hazardous substance.  Therefore mass evacuations and collection of hazardous material was conducted on a daily basis.

We should be very proud of the collaborative effort by MPD and their Federal State and local partners who have effectively responded to the suspicious letters and coordinated this investigation nationwide.   Last week a suspect was arrested by the FBI in the Portland-Vancouver area, Christopher Lee Carlson, 39 years of age was charged with mailing threating communications in the US Postal system.

November 9th: “Give to the Max Day”

Friends and Supporters –

It’s always exciting to think about the great work we are doing with the kids in Washington DC.

And, while I’m really passionate about the kids, I know we can’t do it without you….so here’s something else really important!

On November 9th, thousands of area residents are going to show their support for their favorite nonprofit through Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington.

Through November 9th, every donation and donor we get will go further to help us claim a share of more than $2million in donations expected to be raised.

Everyone can be a philanthropist on November 9th, and we have a matching grant for up to $1,000 so that your contribution will be doubled! Every single dollar counts!

What really has me excited is that this is going to be a big event, and everyone will be talking about who they’re supporting. Think “American Idol” and we’re in the try-outs but need your support to make it to the top.

We need you to help us with these three things:

1) Mark November 9th on your calendar and add this giving link. http://give2max.razoo.com/story/Washington-D-C-Police-Foundation

2) Follow us on Facebook and http://www.dcpolicefoundation.org/ and help build the buzz.

3) Spread the word! Forward this email to your family and friends along with a personal note as to why you believe in our work, and why they should give on November 9th.

Help spread the excitement. Tell your friends and family why you think they should help us with their donation. Please be our champion!

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,

Joe Persichini
